A 28 year career with the United Nations based in Geneva and New York HQs serving in missions in Tajikistan (UNMOT 1994-97) , Afghanistan (UNSMA 1999-2001 & UNAMA 2003-2004), Iraq (UNAMI 2004-2006 & 2016-2021), Sudan & South Sudan (UNMIS 2008-2009 & 2011) Liberia (UNMIL 2009-2010) Ivory Coast (UNOCI 2010-2011)
Also served as Head of Office in Iran (2006-2007) and Pakistan (1997-99).
Author of five books and several hundred articles on international affairs and defence issues since 1983 in dailies and periodicals in Spain, UK, Germany, France, US, Canada and Switzerland.
Currently married with three children and three grandchildren.
